The word “hosting” doesn't describe just one service, but several services that offer various functions to a domain name. Having a site and emails, for instance, are two individual services although in the general case they come together, so most of the people think of them as one single service. In fact, every domain has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, which specifies where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the emails for the domain. As an example, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record is mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will be directed to the correct server. The idea behind using separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you can have your site hosted by one service provider and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting service from our company, you're going to be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. So long as a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify particular records via our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails pointed to another service provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool will permit you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain in any way. If you want to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do it with simply a few mouse clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You may also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with our semi-dedicated servers, allows you to view the A and MX records for any of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is very easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes only a few more clicks and in case you experience any problems, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to provide you with complete control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're switching your emails to a different company and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
